Day One on Irish Terra Firma

Despite jet lag, technological frustrations and the odd bit of rain, golf has been played. As noted above, we got out for nine holes on the day of arrival, specifically the front nine of the Glashedy Links. It was quite the beautiful day, and needing to make it through the day without napping in order to readily acclimate, a walk in the fresh air was deemed to be just the thing.

Madam stripes her opening drive in Ireland down the fairway.
So some golf was played... not competent golf mind you, but golf all the same. It was readily agreed to defer the commencement of hostilities until sleep was recorded, so we didn't so much as keep a card. Strangely enough, we both ripped our drives down the center of the fairway and made par on the opener, after which form reverted to a level expected under the circumstances, providing ample opportunities to climb the dunes through which the course is routed in search of our stray shots. Nine holes was the perfect dosage, and fortunately both Ballyliffin courses were constructed with the ninth hole returning to the clubhouse. For the non-golf readers, links golf courses are often built in an out and back routing, so that anything short of a full 18 will necessitate a lengthy walk back.

Theresa was the first into a bunker, though I followed on the very next shot, one of those terrifying short pitches off the rock hard turf.
Our first day ended with a drive down to the beach at Pollan Bay, and then the sleep of the just.

The bride dips her feet into the Atlantic, the perfect ending for Day 1.

More soon, I hope.  This blogging thing takes time.
